Seriously, PW is one of the very few Chinese fictions I've read that are not jam-packed with glaring plot armours or cliches. Most of the stuffs (techniques or treasures) don't help him immediately but would only show its purpose later when the author ties up the loose ends.

There’s a manga or manwha but I don’t think it’s complete. The graphics are very childish and the design of SH is just horrendously ugly. I can’t tell you more because I’m never a fan of mangas. Read the novel, if you don’t have the time, just go to Wuxiaworld and read the comments section of every chapter. The comments from the readers are ridiculously funny and you can glean the gist of the chapter from there.
